Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Bird Treats
Looking for a festive, healthy treat for your parrot? These Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Bird Treats are perfect for the season! Made with bird-safe ingredients like pumpkin, oats, and a dash of Ceylon cinnamon, they bring a touch of autumn warmth to your bird's snack time. Easy to make and fun to shape, they're a great way to celebrate Halloween or any fall occasion with your birds. In The Science of Avian Nutrition, I emphasize that variety in a parrot’s diet is key to preventing nutritional deficiencies. With treats we can add pumpkin, oats, and cinnamon or vary them to other safe ingredients to provide different nutrition value to your bird.

Why These Treats Are Healthy for Birds
These treats taste, crunchy and they offer nutritional benefits:
-
Pumpkin: Packed with vitamin A for healthy feathers and immune support.
-
Oats: A wholesome source of fiber and energy for active parrots.
-
Ceylon Cinnamon: Bird-safe in small amounts, adds flavor and antioxidants.
Tip: Always use for birds, not cassia, which can be harmful in larger amounts. Use Ceylon in small amounts as well.
Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Bird Treat Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup 100% Pumpkin Puree
- 1/4 tsp Ceylon Cinnamon
- 1 cup Oat Flour + plus extra for rolling.
- 1/2 cup Oats
Instructions:
- Mix all ingredients together and blend well. Use extra flour to prevent stickiness if needed. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Roll the dough to 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch thickness. Work in batches if necessary, and use parchment paper to keep the dough from sticking to your rolling pin. The thinner you roll, the crunchier the cookies will be.
- Cut the dough into any shapes you like. Place cookies on baking sheet which is lightly greased with coconut oil.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
- Turn off the oven and leave the cookies inside for 1 hour to dry out in the warm oven.
- Let cool and serve as a treat for your bird!
Serving & Storage Tips
-
Treats should make up no more than 10% of your parrot’s diet.
-
